Position Overview
Reporting to the Director of Admission and Enrollment Management, the Assistant Director of Admission & Director of Tuition Assistance is an essential part of the day-to-day operations and admissions programs. This position serves as the public face of admissions, promoting the WNS philosophy to internal and external constituencies, including volunteers, students, applicant families, faculty and staff, sending schools, and other referring organizations. This position oversees the tuition assistance program and works individually with all prospective and current families applying for and/or receiving tuition assistance. WNS is a relationship-based, high-volume organization, which requires the Admission office to maintain a visible profile on campus and a warm, customer-centered approach. This position works closely with the administration and faculty in many aspects of the admissions process and is part of a team of four full time admissions professionals.
Essential Job Functions
Work with the Director of Enrollment Management, Director of Finance (CFO), Business Office staff, & HOS, and serve as an integral part of the tuition assistance (TA) committee
Represent WNS’s mission, programs, curriculum and philosophy knowledgeably and effectively to prospective families at fairs, tours, and school visits
Attend fairs, home receptions, and other day/evening/weekend admission events during the year
Conduct in-person and virtual admission interviews with applicant families
Review and assess student applicants and serve on admissions committees
Conducts school tours for applicant families and guests of WNS
Provides friendly and informative customer service for all visitors/applicants from inquiry to enrollment
Be the lead TA practitioner at WNS in terms of calculating aid for enrolled and admitted families
Be the lead point of contact for and manage communication with the current and prospective TA recipient pool
Analyze and manage distribution of TA across grades and divisions to strengthen long-range financial planning in coordination with the Director of Enrollment Management, CFO, and Head of School
Develop affordability outreach and marketing strategies to attract middle income families to the school
Work with the three divisions (preschool, elementary, middle) to understand impediments to a full WNS education for TA students; identify additional costs of attendance or areas of need for recipient families to ensure an equitable WNS experience
Serve as a thought leader in affordability of independent schools, financial aid policies, and help the school develop strategies to continue to make WNS accessible to a wide variety of families
Conduct institutional research on efficacy of current TA policies, best practices and how the TA program is competitive in the greater independent school market
Serve as the lead storyteller (public speaking, marketing, and strategy) about the importance of and criteria for TA at WNS, presenting to faculty, staff, families, etc.
Serve on all-school committees and fully invest in the life of the school
Required Experience, Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Bachelors required, Masters preferred
Minimum 5+ years experience and demonstrated growth and advancement in the independent school or higher education financial aid and the admission profession
Background in elementary education and/or knowledge of child development as it relates to admission screenings
Demonstrated experience in complex event planning and execution with simultaneous management of multiple constituencies and deadlines
Demonstrated experience in constituent relations and public speaking
Ability to communicate a complex educational philosophy through strong writing and public speaking
Strong systems orientation to database management and data tracking
Strong cultural competency skills and track record of successfully working with families from diverse backgrounds
A friendly, gracious, professional manner; willingness to learn; and growth mindset
Impeccable ethics and a demonstrated commitment to confidentiality
Professional experience in PS-8 school curricula and pedagogy
Desire to continually participate in professional development opportunities
Exemplary skills in data analysis and financial literacy, particularly in regard to tax documents
Proficiency in Word, Excel, MS Office, Google Docs, and database management
Preferred Qualifications
Fluent in Spanish
The salary range for this position is $75k – $110k, based on relevant experience.
