THE POSITION

Vistamar School is seeking a full-time SCIENCE TEACHER for the 2026-2027 school year. The ideal candidate will be able to teach Life Science, AP Environmental Science, and other classes as assigned. They should have experience teaching biology and chemistry at the high school level and be excited to dig into an integrated curriculum.

Candidates should be eager to empower students to defend their thinking while fostering a collaborative environment where everyone connects through active listening and diverse perspectives. Vistamar teachers guide learners as they grapple with complexity and apply their knowledge to authentic contexts, ensuring they take ownership of their growth. Ultimately, our teachers help students find their unique voices so they may graduate ready to uplift their communities with confidence, generosity, and compassion.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Teach 5 sections of science courses to include: Life Science, AP Environmental Science, and/or other courses as assigned, depending on experience
Contribute to all course planning teams with creativity, collaboration, and organization
Use backwards planning to design inquiry-based learning experiences using NGSS, integrating a range of both formative and summative assessments
Serve as a student advisor, assist with student activities, and engage in faculty and team meetings.
Actively communicate with students & families
Participate in admissions/development events and other important community gatherings.
Exercise flexibility and direct communication to cultivate strong and collegial relationships with all community members while maintaining appropriate boundaries; meet deadlines and use effective organizational skills; practice effective coping skills to manage challenge or stress
Must be available to engage fully with our onboarding process.

QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must have an undergraduate or a graduate degree in a science-related field, along with classroom experience at the high school level. Preferred candidates have at least 3 years of experience teaching high school science and a teaching credential.
