The Wesley School seeks a full- time Learning Specialist to support students in 6th-8th grade, approximately 30 hours per week. The Learning Specialist will work under the direction of the Director of Learning Services and with the School Counselor to develop learning plans, implement assessments, monitor student progress, and offer student, parent, and teacher support. This role works closely with administration, teachers, parents, and tutors to provide consistent individualized and small group support.

Roles and Responsibilities Include:

Individual meetings with students to support organization and specific subject areas
Small group lessons as warranted by the needs of the classes
Classroom observations and development of accommodations
Teacher support
Parent communication
Weekly Learning Services Team Meetings
Weekly Grade Level Team Meetings
Student Support Team Meetings with parents
Formal and informal assessment
Development of learning plans
Keeping files updated


BA/BS Degree
Experience and/or certification in specialized areas, such as Orton Gillingham, Slingerland, Wilson Fundations, or executive functioning
Upper elementary and/or middle school teaching experience
Experience working in an elementary and/or middle school setting, with students, parents, and teachers
Excellent communication and organizational skills

Working Environment: Sitting or standing for prolonged periods of time. Light to moderate lifting (up to 30 pounds). Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, ability to adjust focus, and sound hearing. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The ability to speak clearly and coherently is also required. Reaching, kneeling, pulling, pushing, bending, crawling, walking, running, jumping, writing, and keyboarding.

Finally, in the spirit of being a professional member of this community, many of the responsibilities of the position are associated with obligations to engage in school work on evenings, weekends, and summers as necessary, to satisfy school deadlines and the expression of the school’s commitments and initiatives. These obligations include but are not limited to a variety of evening events to engage with families, planning of lessons and units as well as assessment of student learning, documentation of the same including report cards and communication with families, and ongoing professional learning. In each instance the school will exert its best efforts to be supportive of and responsive to your needs and challenges.

Salary Range for Lead Teachers is $65,000-$77,000.  Dependent upon years of experience.
