We are seeking a dynamic and organized Maker Space & Research Assistant to support our vibrant and progressive learning environment. The ideal candidate is passionate about hands-on learning, research, creativity, and student-driven exploration. This individual will manage and maintain both the Thinkering Tank, our campus makerspace, and support student research projects ensuring the space is well-organized, well-stocked, and accessible for students and teachers. They will assist in facilitating projects, supporting teachers with research, fabrication and educational technology tools. They will guide students in research and design processes, and maintain tools, materials, and technology essential for both spaces. The general breakdown is 30% project coordination & planning, 20% technology coaching with faculty, 20% teaching, and 30% managing makerspace & help desk support.
This position reports to the K-12 Director of Design & Fabrication and works closely with the Librarian & Media Specialist to ensure both spaces function seamlessly to support student learning.

Roles and Responsibilities
Maker Space Support
- Help formulate and implement strategies and systems for developing the Thinkering Tank into a full-time makerspace
- Assist students and teachers with hands-on building, fabrication, and design projects.
- Support students and teachers with identifying and using education technology tools to enhance project-based learning.
- Catalogue offerings of the tools, equipment, and materials in the current “Thinkering Tank”, and provide suggestions for organization and upgrades as needed.
- Guide students in using a variety of tools and materials, including basic woodworking, electronics, robotics, 3D printing, and craft supplies.
- Support project-based learning by helping students bring their ideas to life, troubleshooting challenges, and fostering creative problem-solving.
- Enforce safety procedures and ensure students use materials appropriately.
Library Support
- Assist students and teachers in finding and using books, digital resources, and research tools.
- Organize and maintain the library collection, ensuring materials are accessible and up to date.
- Support literacy initiatives and promote a love of reading through creative displays and book recommendations.
- Facilitate research projects by guiding students in effective information-gathering techniques.
- Manage check-in/check-out procedures and help maintain a welcoming, functional library space.
Qualifications
- Experience working with children in a school, library, makerspace, or related settings.
- Experience with current technologies used in educational institutions, and a willingness to learn and implement new technology tools, including AI.
- Knowledge of library systems, research skills, literacy.
- Comfort with maker tools and technologies such as hand tools, 3D printers, laser cutters, robotics, and crafting supplies.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage materials, tools, and spaces effectively.
- Ability to collaborate with teachers/support student-led projects.
- Experience in progressive/project-based learning environment.
- Background in education, library science, design, or STEM fields.
- Familiarity with digital research tools/library management software.
- Enthusiasm for hands-on learning, creative problem-solving, and project-based education
