Position Overview
Marymount seeks to hire an enthusiastic orchestra leader and/or accompanist. The part-time position entails teaching the Conservatory Arts Program (CAP) orchestra. The orchestra leader will also assist with the winter concert, spring musical, masses, and other school events as needed. The ideal candidate has a college degree in a relevant field and a minimum of 3 years of professional musical ensemble directing/management experience.
Job Duties & Requirements
Orchestra Leader
- Lead orchestra ensemble for grades 9-12
- Prepare and conduct orchestra for end-of-semester concerts (winter concert and spring arts festival)
- Select appropriate repertoire for each end-of-semester concert
- Arrange songs as necessary for instrumentation
- Create small ensemble groups to perform at Open House
- Prepare presentations about the orchestra program for incoming students’ orientation, Back to School Night, and Open House
- Collaborate with the Performing Arts Department Chair, Choir Director, Dance
Teacher and Theatre Director as needed for school events and masses. - Provide instruction appropriate for individual student differences and learning styles.
- Create a learning environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students and aligned with the stated mission of the school.
- Attend faculty and department meetings as needed
*Piano Accompanist Position
- Learn assigned choir songs, as well as be able to play individual vocal parts
- Perform at end-of-semester choir concerts (Winter Concert and Spring Arts Festival)
- Accompany each mass (~5 total throughout the year)
- Play in the pit of the spring musical
- Play graduation rehearsals (which include the Star-Spangled Banner, the Alma Mater, and the senior song)
- Perform at the Cabaret Night and the graduation
Qualifications
- Minimum of three (3) years of related professional orchestra ensemble experience
BFA/MFA in music performance/composition; Bachelor of Music Education preferred - Experience working with High School students is preferred.
- Proficiency as a piano accompanist.
- Strong knowledge and skill with a broad range of music styles, history, theory, musicianship, vocal pedagogy, instruments, and music technology.
- Knowledge of and practical experience in teaching instrumental technique and leading an ensemble.
- Excellent classroom management, communication, and organization skills
- An ability to convey a love of music to the students
- Flexibility with work schedule is necessary as day, evening, and weekend hours will be periodically required.
