Executive Director of College Counseling

 

Brentwood School, a vibrant and diverse K–12 independent school, is seeking a full-time Executive Director of College Counseling starting July 1, 2026. This is a year-round, exempt position reporting to the Upper School Director. The Executive Director will provide visionary leadership for the College Counseling Office (CCO), strengthen institutional relationships with colleges and universities, and ensure that Brentwood students are exceptionally well-positioned in an evolving admissions landscape.

It is expected that a successful candidate would:

·         Hire, train, and evaluate college counselors

·         Lead the strategic vision and growth of the College Counseling Office, implementing innovative,

mission-aligned practices that differentiate Brentwood students in the college admissions process

·         Travel to, build, and sustain strong relationships with college and university admissions officers,

with particular focus on key decision-makers

·         Speak at conferences

·         Sit on Brentwood’s Senior Admin. Team and Upper School Leadership Team

·         Sit on advisory boards

·         Participate in working groups on university and college admissions practices

·         Advise a small group of students

·         Present admissions outcomes to the board or leadership.

·         Handle highly involved or influential parents.

·         Develop compelling strategies and materials that clearly articulate Brentwood’s academic program and make a predictive case for students’ future success in college

·         Identify and analyze trends in college admissions and collaborate with the CCO team to adapt

counseling strategies accordingly

·         Serve as a resource, mentor, and thought partner to members of the College Counseling Office to

support their professional growth and effectiveness

·         Oversee the collection, analysis, and strategic use of student and alumni data, including

undergraduate and post-graduate outcomes

·         Develop customized, institution-specific data metrics to inform counseling practices and

strengthen school-to-college partnerships

·         Partner with the Communications, Admissions, and Advancement Offices to create marketing

materials and outreach strategies that promote Brentwood to colleges and universities

·         Maintain and enhance digital platforms, including website content and social media, to engage

families and college representatives

·         Support and participate in CCO programming and events for students, families, alumni, and

college representatives

 

In addition, a candidate should possess the following personal qualities:

·         Deep knowledge of college admissions trends and best practices

·         Strategic thinking and data fluency

·         Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

·         Professional integrity, sound judgment, and discretion

·         Flexibility and a willingness to receive feedback

·         An interest in ongoing professional growth and development

 

While being vaccinated for COVID-19 is not required, it is strongly recommended.

COMPENSATION: Brentwood School’s diverse and talented faculty ranges widely in experience level, from those new to teaching to veterans who are experts in their respective disciplines with 30+ years of experience. Our salary range of $180,000 to $210,000 includes all levels of experience. Salaries are determined based on years of experience, education, full- or part-time status, and number of months worked per school year. Salary ranges do not include benefits i.e. 403b retirement matching, paid lunchtime, free breakfast and lunch, free parking, subsidy toward medical, dental, vision, life/AD&D plans, and generous time off. The pay range is an estimate and is not guaranteed. If hired, your actual base salary will be determined by your education, experience, and schedule.
