The Wesley School, established in 1999, is a co-ed K-8 independent day school in North Hollywood. Nurturing a community of belonging is at the core of everything we do. The Wesley School is seeking qualified and excited coaches for Elem/Middle School Boys and/or Girls teams for the 2026-2027 Sports Seasons (approximately 10-week duration for each season – Fall (Sep. – Nov.);  Winter (Dec. – Feb.);  Spring Mar. – May). A coach must be committed to the personal development of their student-athletes. This includes teaching them skills relating to the sport. A coach must also help students develop a competitive nature, teach them about ethical behavior, good sportsmanship, and assist in the development of leadership.

Sports Offered:

Fall: 4th-8th Flag Football, 4th-8th Girls Basketball, Cross Country (1 team), Swim (6th-8th – 1 team) Winter: 4th-8th Boys Basketball, 4th-8th Girls Soccer,

Spring: 4th-8th Volleyball (Boys/ Girls), 4th-6th Boys Soccer, Golf, Track and Field

Practice/Game Times: After school practices run from 3:30 pm – 5:00 pm unless replaced by a game. Home game timeframe is 3:30 pm through 5:15 pm (Any away games are usually a two to three hour time commitment somewhere between the hours of 3:00 pm and 6:30 pm.)

Practice Days: 2x a week – occasionally replaced by games.

Middle School (6th-8th) are usually Mon & Wed 3:30 – 5:00

Elementary School (4th-5th) are usually Tues & Thurs 3:30-5:00

Location: Practices and home games are on campus or close to campus.

Away Games: Played at neighboring schools in the area. Start times are usually 3:30 pm or 4:30 pm. Buses are used occasionally for AWAY games and coaches are expected to ride with the team when they travel by bus. On occasion, students carpool with families, in which case a coach may travel separately.

Season: 5-6 regular season games with a playoff game (Middle School Only) and a final if applicable.

Responsibilities include: In keeping with the Wesley Mission, plan and coach developmentally appropriate coaching sessions in a safe and engaging environment. Work closely with the Athletics Coordinator to set clear expectations, achieve goals, and planned objectives for the season. Attend to the social and emotional needs of the students. Adhere to league rules associated with each level of play. Develop and model best practices and maintain a positive coaching and learning environment. Attend the end-of-season awards ceremony. Attend all practices and league games, and playoff games and finals if applicable. Set up and break down equipment when necessary. Follow routines and procedures relating to attendance, team uniforms, and student safety. Whether home or away, stay with the team until the last student has been picked up.

Minimum Qualifications: At least 18 years of age. Coaching experience is necessary. Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally and proactively with school administrators, governing organizations, opponents, staff, parents, and students.

Working Environment: Sitting or standing for prolonged periods. Light to moderate lifting (up to 30 pounds). Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, ability to adjust focus, and adequate hearing. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The ability to speak clearly and coherently is also required. Reaching, kneeling, pulling, pushing, bending, walking, running, jumping, writing, and keyboarding must be possible.

This position is a non-exempt part-time seasonal position.  The hourly rate is $21.50 ($1750 per team per season).
