Progressive Educational School, Preschool through 12th grade

The Waverly School seeks a full-time elementary school Spanish teacher for the 2022-23 school year. The ideal person will inspire creativity and collaboration into their lessons and know how to use many different approaches to bring Spanish to life in our progressive, developmental school. Teachers at The Waverly School bring positivity, collegiality, strong work ethic, and a commitment to building warm and supportive relationships with children into the school each day. We are seeking a teacher who understands how to provide differentiated and extended learning experiences within the context of a progressive language learning environment. The goal of our Spanish language program is to graduate students with solid Spanish language proficiency, and with a passion and ability to meaningfully engage with people of many cultural backgrounds. Requirements & Responsibilities

  • BA and prior elementary teaching experience required.
  • Native or near-native level of Spanish fluency required.
  • Use Responsive Classroom techniques.
  • Love working with students and creating a joyful learning environment.
  • Work with classroom teachers and the Learning Specialist to design accommodations and child-centered approaches to learning and behavior.
  • Demonstrates ability to incorporate song, dance, art, and music into Spanish lessons.
  • Desire and ability to contribute to student and community life inside and outside the classroom.
  • Commitment to social justice and multicultural education.
  • Understanding and appreciation of a progressive approach to teaching and learning.
  • Shows flexibility for the daily changes that happen in a school environment.
  • Provides support to lead teachers for semester reports.
  • Attends and participates in weekly faculty meetings (after school) and occasional workshops, in-service opportunities, and other training seminars.
  • Supervises students before school, recess, and lunch.
  • Works in-person, on campus.
  • Performs other duties or tasks as defined by the Director of Elementary School or Head of School.
  • Teach PS-6th grade, typically 2 times per week for each class

Education and Experience

  • 12 Units in ECE or more
  • 1-3 years of experience in a classroom setting
  • Preference for candidates who are seeking a teaching credential
  • Preference for candidates who have experience in a progressive educational setting

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking throughout classrooms
  • Occasionally lift 15-45 pounds at a time
  • Must be able to sit and stand on the floor throughout the day, and bend, kneel, or squat to be at  eye level with children
