Essential Functions:
Teacher Duties:
● Create a dynamic classroom environment that stimulates the love of learning using instructional approaches
such as Project-based Learning, Universal Design of Learning and Competency-based Learning
● Develop high quality lessons in ELA, math, writing and social studies
● Address the academic, social and emotional needs of a neurodivergent 5/6 class through differentiation and understanding each student’s learning style
● Support at a the skill development of students in the areas of writing, reading, math, study skills, executive functioning skills, problem-solving and test-taking skills
● Incorporate social emotional learning throughout the school day when opportunities arise
● Assess students with consistent, varied and engaging strategies
● Maintain clear documentation of the progression of student skills through BlackBaud
● Use restorative practice and positive reinforcement as primary behavior management strategies
● Collaborate with counselors and the Renaissance team to craft curriculum consistent with the schools’ mission of inclusion and anti-bias
● Communicate with parents within 24 hours regarding any academic or behavioral issues and conduct parent conferences per school policy
● Manage time, communications, materials, classroom space with efficiency
General Responsibilities:
● Support and further the schools’ missions, visions, and values
● Actively engage in the life of the school and participate in related teaching duties, as needed
● Ensure the safety and well-being of students
● Celebrate and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the classroom and community in alignment with the school’s Diversity and Inclusion Statement
● Demonstrate respect towards all members of the school community, including students, parents, teachers, support staff, and administration
● Behave with dignity and respect, in accordance with school and community expectations
● Abide by school policies and procedures
Additional Duties:
● Attend department, faculty, grade level and Renaissance team meetings, as required
● Serve as a chaperone for the Outdoor Education program, as required
● Carry out supervisory duties during breaks, breakfast, and lunch periods, as assigned
● Provide cover for absent staff, when required
Other Responsibilities:
● Carry out instructions as given by their respective supervisors and school leadership
● Participate in professional development activities, as directed by leadership
● Research new topic areas, maintain up-to-date subject knowledge to improve teaching and learning, and update unit plans accordingly
Required Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s Degree in education or related subject
● A clear enjoyment of working with children and outstanding interpersonal skills with an understanding of how employing a variety of teaching styles is essential in order to be able to reach all students
● A self starter with a strong work ethic
● Flexibility, sense of humor, and the ability to work as part of a team. We don’t expect everyone to have all the answers all the time, but we do look for a sense of confidence and good judgment, especially in the ability to ask a colleague for advice whenever needed

● Demonstrated excellent attendance and punctuality
Preferred Qualifications:
● Special Education degree.
● Experience with reading, math, and writing interventions.
● Experience with Universal Design for Learning
● Experience in differentiating curriculum for a wide range of neurodiverse learners
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
● Willingness and ability to work in a highly-demanding environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts
● Ability and willingness to attend and work occasional overnight field trips
● Ability to travel safely and comfortably across a campus
● May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time
● Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs
● Work primarily in a traditional, climate-controlled classroom environment and work intermittently in outside weather conditions consistent with San Pedro weather
