Oakwood is currently accepting applications for Classroom Assistants (30 hours per week) and Classroom Associates (40 hours per week) for next school year. You will work alongside your assigned classroom teacher (in grades K-6) and support them with all the day-to-day classroom instruction and supervision.
We are looking for candidates who have a passion for education, and who love working with students. Prior experience working with elementary–aged children is preferred. The ideal candidate is someone who is prepared to challenge students academically, physically, and artistically and to establish genuine relationships within our community. Classroom Assistants & Associates will also help with planning special activities to pique our students’ interests in a variety of ways.

Assistants who are scheduled for 30 hours per week in the classroom, may also work up to 8-10 hours per week in our after school program.
This position is a 10-month role which follows our academic school year from August through June each year. Assistants and associates are considered 10-month employees and will receive benefits (during the school year) and paid sick days.
Responsibilities may include the following:
Supervise and support classroom programming and activities
Prepare and supervise snack, being aware of food allergies
Supervise and facilitate free-choice activities and recess
Assisting with developing weekly lesson plans
Submit material requests, etc
Ensure that students are learning in creative, hands-on, interactive, and age-appropriate ways
Incorporate opportunities for students to collaborate, problem-solve, and create
Other duties as assigned
Classroom, After School Program or Summer Camp work experience, or other equivalent professional experience working with children
Bachelor’s degree in education preferred but not required
