Reports to: Associate Head of School / Teaching and Learning

The counselor will work as a key member of our school, across all four campuses. The school welcomes a total of 1050 students from over 65 nationalities from Preschool to Grade 12.

To provide support for the emotional, social and psychological development and well-being of the school’s student body.

Specific Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
● Assess students’ social, emotional, and psychological needs and provide short-term individual and crisis counseling
● Provide individual consultation for faculty and parents/guardians regarding students’ mental health and emotional concerns/needs to develop supportive strategies for the classroom and home
● Collaborate with external mental health providers (when necessary) in assessing or supporting students who are having an acute or chronic issue
● Collaborate with external organizations to help proactively plan all-school or grade-level specific programming
● Serve as a member of the Student Support Team to plan and implement support strategies for students
● Work with the leadership team on various health and wellness initiatives
● Educate the wider school community on matters if mental Health and Wellness seminar program alongside the Associate Dean of Students
● Develop and present educational and SEL programming for students, parents and faculty
● Clinical consultation regarding behavioral, social and emotional concerns of students consistent with the mission of the School
● Collaborate with parents, Parker staff and community health care providers to support social, emotional and behavioral needs of students
● Provider of initial counseling and intervention services to students
● Provide community referrals for counseling and intervention services, as needed
● Explore, develop and assist with implementation of deeper curricular integration of diversity, mental health, social and emotional issues in collaboration with faculty and divisional leadership
● Maintain records and all required documentation of student contacts and services
Selection Criteria

Essential Qualifications:
The School Counselor must possess a current mental health license to practice psychotherapy. The successful candidate should be self-directed, collaborative, have experience working in a school setting and with extensive experience with teens. The School Counselor should be comfortable with public speaking and working with a wide range of constituents at the school as well as interacting with outside mental health providers. Essential Qualifications also include:
● Master’s / Advanced degree in School Counseling or a related field
● Active California license in a mental health profession (LMFT, LCSW, LPCC)
● Experience as a school counselor in a high school setting or with adolescents
● A strong commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and a demonstrated ability to develop and deliver educational programs in these fields
● Minimum of two years’ experience in a school or other educational setting with diverse student populations
