Harvard-Westlake Upper School is seeking a highly qualified temporary history/social studies teacher for our 10th-grade modern world history and 11th-grade U.S. history course offerings. This temporary, full-time position will last approximately eight weeks, from mid-April to early June 2025. Our history program takes pride in its commitment to caring for students as individual learners and in our collaborative approach to curriculum development. Ideal candidates should possess a passion for teaching history/social studies and working with high school students. Additionally, candidates should have subject expertise, a strong work ethic, high standards for themselves and others, as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in history or a related field
• Ability to teach classes on U.S. history and modern world history
• A “team-player” mindset with a collaborative attitude to work well within a department and within course-level teams
• Demonstrated ability to convey concepts clearly and concisely to students, to elicit meaningful output from students, to organize and structure purposeful class time, and to foster an engaging learning
• Enthusiasm for working with high school students
• Ideal candidates will be excited about becoming part of our vibrant school community and broadly engaging with students and colleagues.

Compensation: Anticipated base compensation for the period is $17,500 – $20,000 depending on the actual contract length.
