Harvard-Westlake School is looking for an exceptional and highly qualified educator with a passion for working with middle school students to serve as Middle School Director of Student Affairs. The position will begin in August for the 2024-25 school year.

The Director of Student Affairs, in partnership with student groups and the school administration, plans, organizes, and executes school-wide and grade-specific events and initiatives that are aimed at fostering community. While some of these events are focused on the school community; others encourage students to think more broadly to benefit our local and global communities. Examples of school-specific events include working as an advisor to our student council, helping them create community-building events such as school dances, spirit days, and other social events. The Director of Student Affairs inspires our students to promote and embrace our mission of “purpose beyond ourselves” by overseeing service programming, which includes teaching a community service course for our 7th graders, overseeing our school service program, chaperoning community service trips, and working with student groups to organize charitable fundraisers and drives throughout the school year. Our middle school consists of 7th, 8th, and 9th grades; interested candidates should demonstrate their ability to connect with all three grade levels. This position reports to the Head of Middle School.

We are looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred.
  • Experience working with adolescents aged 12-16 in a variety of contexts,
    including service-related experiences.
  • A student-centered approach, creating an environment that engages student voices, and empowers young leaders.
  • Strong teamwork skills and demonstrated collegiality and organization.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time.
  • Effective and responsive communication skills.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Enthusiasm and vision to become part of our vibrant school community, broadly engaging with students and colleagues to develop a strong sense of togetherness.

We are an independent school consisting of two campuses located in Los Angeles, California. We have approximately 1,600 curious, thoughtful, and inspiring students enrolled in grades seven through twelve.

Compensation:

Anticipated base compensation is $85,000 to $105,000 depending on experience. The position will begin in August 2024.
