About Francis Parker School:

Francis Parker School is a coeducational independent day school in San Diego, California with 1315 students in grades JK-12. Founded in 1912, the school’s mission is “to create and inspire a diverse community of independent thinkers whose academic excellence, global perspective and strength of character prepare them to make a meaningful difference in the world.” Francis Parker School has two campuses in close proximity. One in Mission Hills (Lower School JK-5), and a second in Linda Vista (Middle and Upper School 6-8 and 9-12, respectively).

Job Description:

To provide oversight and leadership for the Math curriculum in the lower school, ensuring vertical and horizontal alignment. The incumbent will provide training for teachers and deliver parent workshops. The math specialist will provide small group instruction and intervention/enrichment services to Grade JK-5 students in collaboration with the Student Support Team and Lower School Assistant Head for Academics and Instruction.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Performance Responsibilities:

Provides demonstrations of methods and materials (i.e. coaching and co-teaching)
Assists classroom teachers in evaluating students’ skills and collaborates in planning instructional strategies
Consults with grade level teams to identify appropriate materials to be utilized for intervention or enrichment in the classroom
Interprets and disseminates results from a variety of classroom assessments and other standardized measures, maintaining a database of math progress for students

Professional responsibilities include:

Implements a remediation plan for students who have been identified as performing below grade level benchmarks and an enrichment plan for students ready to move beyond grade level expectations.
Responsible for maintaining current data and records showing student progress during enrichment or remediation.
Utilizes an agreed upon method of instruction for students
Provides staff development opportunities for teachers regarding instructional and assessment strategies.
·         Leads parent education and workshops

Qualifications:

·         A degree (B.A., B.S., Masters in Education preferred) plus a minimum of five years teaching experience at the elementary level.

Experience providing targeted intervention at the elementary level required.
Certification in math is required.
Be familiar with independent, college preparatory school curriculum and have knowledge of Common Core benchmark goals in math for each grade level.
Experience with Singapore Math (Math in Focus) program preferred
Experience coaching teachers required
Experience designing and delivering professional development required
Specialization in Math enrichment and remediation
Understands learning processes and has the ability to differentiate instruction
Ability to work with a team of colleagues, classroom teachers, and parents
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Detail oriented
·         Familiarity with Mac programs and Google Suite

Salary and Benefits:

Francis Parker School is committed to attracting and retaining the highest quality faculty and staff through a substantial compensation plan, including competitive salary, TIAA retirement benefits and full medical/dental coverage. Individual salary is negotiable depending on years of experience and educational background.

Francis Parker School uses a salary scale that is based on educational degree and years of experience. Salary Range: $75,000 – $85,000 per year.
