Position:  6th – 8th Grade P.E. & Wellness Teacher

Reports to: Upper School Director

Position Status:  Full-Time, Exempt

Summary

Foothill Country Day School is currently seeking an energetic, creative, and resourceful PE & Wellness Teacher to teach physical education, wellness, and health classes to 6th-8th grade students. The PE & Wellness Teacher demonstrates knowledge and understanding of health and wellness, engages students in learning experiences that help students foster an appreciation for physical and mental well-being, and creates a safe and interactive environment where students feel empowered to learn about health and wellness.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

·       Develop and maintain a comprehensive, age-appropriate 6th-8th grade curriculum that includes proper assessment and evaluation of skills being taught

·       Teach physical fitness, rhythm and dance, team and individual sports, and innovative games that increase fitness, motor skills, and character building among students

·       Collaborate with lower school PE teacher in creating a unified K-8 curriculum

·       Create and deliver a Human, Growth, and Development age-appropriate curriculum to 6th-8th grade students

·       Partner with grade level team to develop academic goals and instructional strategies

·       Form trusting, supportive relationships with students and open, active partnerships with parents

·       Passion and knowledge of working with a diverse student body and a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging

·       Commit to other departmental, committee, and general school responsibilities such as teaching electives, writing narrative progress reports twice a year, and supervising lunch and breaks on a regular basis

·       Lead an advisory group

·       Manage middle school equipment and purchase any additional needs upon supervisor approval

·       Participate in overnight experiential learning trips for 6th-8th grade students

·       Coach after school athletics

The ideal candidate will have the following educational and work background

·       Undergraduate degree from a 4-year accredited institution in physical education or a related field

·       Previous PE & Wellness teaching experience

A demonstrated commitment to supporting students’ social emotional and academic development
Physical Demands:

·       While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to stand and walk for long periods of time

·       This position may also require an employee to push, pull, balance, kneel, and lift items up to 40 lbs

Salary Range:

$50,000-$60,000 annually
