REPORTING TO: Director of Advancement
JOB STATUS: 12 month position, exempt

Campbell Hall is seeking a Major Gifts Officer to develop a portfolio of prospective donors and personally cultivate and solicit individuals and families capable of contributing gifts of $50,000 or more. Working strategically with the Director of Advancement, the Head of School, and key volunteers, the Major Gifts Officer will play an important role in the successful completion of the largest and most ambitious capital campaign in Campbell Halls history.



  • Manage a portfolio of 100-150 Campbell Hall parents, alumni, grandparents, and friends capable of making gifts of $50,000 or more
  • Achieve a minimum of 12 personal visits per month to qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward prospective donors
  • Travel within the Los Angeles area and outside of the area, as needed, to engage with potential donors
  • Create and present a minimum of three proposals per month to prospective donors for consideration according to their interest and philanthropic capacity
  • Recruit and manage a cohort of capital campaign volunteers, preparing them to participate in donor qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
  • Serve as a liaison among donors, the Advancement Office, key school administrators and departments
  • Partner with Advancement colleagues to deliver a comprehensive fundraising strategy that includes capital campaigns, Annual Fund, and event sponsorships
  • Participate in regular departmental moves management meetings to identify new prospects and plan cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for capital campaign gift prospects
  • Document and manage fundraising activity for prospects in Raisers Edge
  • Assist in marketing and implementation of Campbell Halls planned giving program
  • Other duties as assigned



  • Bachelors degree required, graduate degree preferred
  • Five or more years of major gifts fundraising experience, preferably in an independent school or higher education setting
  • Proven success in directly soliciting and closing charitable gifts and in meeting fundraising goals
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with proven capacity to build rapport across a diverse stakeholder groups
  • Demonstrated success in working with volunteers, trustees, and senior leadership
  • Knowledge of financial planning, tax and charitable gift laws, and planned giving vehicles and methods preferred
  • Appreciation for and understanding of Campbell Halls mission and values and an ability to communicate them to external constituencies
  • Desire to be involved in all aspects of life at an independent school
  • Demonstrated capacity to operate in a fast-paced, varied work environment that includes high volume responsibility and atypical or unpredictable hours and tasks
  • High executive functioning skills, including organization, strategic planning, and time management
  • High integrity, and ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and tact
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite and Google online platform; experience with Blackbauds Raisers Edge software a plus
