The Wesley School seeks a talented and motivated educator to join the Senior Administration as the Assistant Head of School for Academics. This is a full-time, exempt position that reports directly to the Head of School. The position begins July 1, 2022.

The responsibilities of the Assistant Head of School for Academics include:

Advise the Head of School on all school policies and programs
Ensure, along with the Head of School, consistency of mission across The Wesley School grade levels and programs
Ensure, along with the Head of School, the School’s commitment to diversity and inclusion in all activities and programs
Be a positive and collaborative contributor to weekly senior administrative team meetings
Oversee, in collaboration with the Coordinator of Inclusive Instruction, all matters related to curriculum, including review and evaluation of academic programs and the alignment of curriculum with the school’s DEIJ mission
Along with the Head of School and Dean of Faculty, implement, maintain, and assess systems for faculty support
Oversee faculty professional development and evaluation systems, including meeting with faculty on goal-setting and managing and evaluating teachers
Make recommendations to the Head of School regarding the hiring, retention, and assignment of faculty
Meet regularly and collaborate with the Deans to ensure effective communication across the school and stay informed of any issues or concerns
Collaborate with the Head of School and Deans to plan and lead periodic faculty meetings
Support the Deans in fulfilling their duties and serve as a sounding board for them
Along with the Head of School, handle student issues not resolved by the Deans
Work with the 7th / 8th Dean to assist the Director of Admissions in the high school placement processes
Support the 7th/8th Dean in overseeing graduation and other end of year events for graduating students
Work with other administrators on the school calendar and master schedule
Lead and serve on appropriate committees, determined with the Head of School
Maintain, along with the Head of School, a strong and open dialogue with FUMC leadership to ensure critical positive relations
Maintain an open door policy to make all feel welcome including parents, students, faculty, staff, and alumni
Be seen around the school and be active in school activities at a level commensurate with senior leadership at the School
Represent the Head of School, when she cannot be present
Other duties, as necessary, assigned by the Head of School

Qualifications include:

Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree(s) and education credentials strongly preferred
A strong teaching background and understanding of the education setting
Significant experience in independent schools
Proven administrative and leadership abilities
Experience with curriculum and faculty development
Clear, effective communicator
