Mirman School seeks an experienced parental leave Choral Director & 4-8th Music teacher for the 2021-2022 school year. The ideal teacher is an energetic and skillful music educator who carries out the responsibilities of Mirman School’s award-winning vocal music program and develops each student’s joyful learning journey, team spirit, and ability to achieve success. A part of the role is ensuring the success of the choral music program throughout the school year with leading and supervising students during performances and festivals. Teachers at Mirman School support differentiation with our students’ curiosities and passions with cross-curricular integration. Teachers are also engaged in regular collaboration, curriculum development, and pedagogical reflection.

Responsibilities:

●      Develop an Upper School (middle school) curriculum utilizing various approaches such as Orff or Kodaly

●      Instruct students in integrating song repertoire, solfege, harmony, sight-reading, composition and music theory

●      Develop a program that includes vocal technique, pitched and non-pitched instruments, ensemble playing, movement, and dance

●      Able to play an instrument with a high level of skill – piano preferred

●      Direct the entry-level Mustang Chorus (4th grade) and Mirman School’s award-winning Concert Singers (5th-8th grades) in school music and special performances and competitions

●      Provide musical direction and piano accompaniment for the Upper School spring Pops Concert and spring musical production

●      Work collaboratively with accompanists and contract musicians and theater teachers

●      Develops each student’s confidence, appreciation, and musical knowledge, vocal skills, and appreciation of music

●      Co-teach and offer support to Lower School classes with the Director of Music Programs

●      Collaborate, design, and implement a cohesive K-8 musical program with the Director of Music Programs

●      Differentiate learning for students

●      Be an advisor for 12-14 students

●      Maintain communication with students and families

●      Possibly participate in an outdoor / travel overnight educational trip

●      Foster a love and joy for learning

●      Integrate technology into teaching and learning

●      Cultivate and model a respectful, safe, creative, and innovative classroom

●      Evaluate student work, using both formative and summative assessments, benchmarks and other assessments to guide instructional planning and promote student success

●      Work collaboratively and communicate effectively with other faculty and throughout all grade levels on campus

●      Exhibit a sense of humor and commitment with high ethical professional standards, and equity perspective

 

Qualifications:

●      Bachelor’s degree in music or music education

●      Extensive knowledge of music pedagogy -Kodály Level 1 and/or Orff-Schulwerk Level I preferred

●      Master’s degree preferred

●      Three years’ teaching experience preferred

●      Successful teaching experience in middle or secondary school

●      Able to play an instrument with a high level of skill – piano preferred.

●      Excellent oral and written communication skills

●      Flexibility and creativity in working in a dynamic environment exhibiting the qualities of an adult learner dedicated to their craft

●      A desire to integrate curriculum and to teach collaboratively

●      Compassionate to the middle school age and experience

●      Culturally competent and engaged community learner

●      Exhibit enthusiasm and commitment to the vision, mission and guiding principles of the school

●      Independent school experience preferred

●      Experience working with highly gifted children preferred
