Marlborough is an independent, college-preparatory day school for girls in grades 7-12, and enrolls students from over 100 different public and independent elementary schools in the greater Los Angeles area. Students of color represent nearly 40% of the student body. With 64 full-time and 13 part-time faculty members, the student-teacher ratio is 8:1 and the average academic class size is 13. Located in Hancock Park, one of Los Angeles’ most beautiful residential areas, Marlborough’s central location makes for easy access to the many activities in metropolitan Los Angeles, ranging from world-class museum collections to lively ethnic dining. Position purpose:


The Education Specialist is a vital part of the Educational and Counseling Services (ECS) Department and reports to the Director of ECS. This is a highly collaborative position, requiring both expertise and flexibility. The Education Specialist is responsible for the coordination of learning support and accommodations for students and teachers. As a member of the ECS Department, the Education Specialist will develop and curate resources to support teachers in research-based teaching practices, provide on-going support and professional development for teachers, coordinate and support Official Accommodations Plans for students, provide small group and individual instruction for recommended students, and may lead parent education opportunities.


The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years experience providing support to students in  7-12th grades. Additionally, the Education Specialist will possess observable skills in evaluating and aiding students with various learning support needs. This role will work collaboratively with students, educators, and families. It is fundamentally important that the Education Specialist be culturally competent and able to promote an inclusive and equitable community by having a nurturing, supportive, and clear tone with students. To be successful, the Education Specialist must be highly organized, possess excellent interpersonal skills, and demonstrate the ability to provide effective, specialized instruction.


Essential Functions include:

●     Work directly with educators to evaluate strategies for supporting students and identifying students who may need additional diagnostic testing for learning differences

●     Interpret psychoeducational testing and design Official Accommodations Plans to be implemented by classroom educators

●     Communicate with students and parents regarding accommodations

●     Lead psychoeducational testing consultation meetings with educators

●     Coordinate with College Counseling for SSD requests to outside agencies

●     Maintain records of accommodation requests and implementation

●     Manage and further develop a multi-tiered support process

●     Manage referrals for student support

●     Collect and monitor academic data to make data-based decisions regarding support

●     Support students directly in 1:1 coaching sessions and small group academic support

●     Communicate with faculty to monitor and titrate student support

●     Promote and lead professional development opportunities for educators, students, and parents

Required Education and Experience:

A professional background in Education, preferably with an advanced degree in education, psychology, or a related field. A minimum of 3 years of experience working in a school-based or similar setting providing learning support for students in middle and upper grades. Knowledge of and experience in implementing a multi-tiered approach to supporting students. Ability to interpret psycho-educational testing reports and develop learning plans based on the evaluator’s recommendations and the school’s philosophy.

A culturally-competent educator who values collaboration and empathy and who is  skilled at connecting with students. Appreciation for girls’ education and the importance of social-emotional learning. An active California Education Specialist Credential or Master’s level therapeutic licensure (LPCC, LCSW, LMFT) is highly preferred, though not required.
